Treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation. Dr. Van Meter will work with you to develop a plan to best meet your goals. The format and intensity of treatment may vary depending on your needs and preferences.

 

Dr. Van Meter uses treatment approaches that are supported by science and can be adapted to meet each client's needs. She enjoys working collaboratively to ensure that clients feel supported and engaged in their treatment. She specializes in cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies (CBT and DBT). She has extensive experience working with both youth and adults who experience distress due to low mood, anxiety, or trouble with emotion regulation. 

Treatment typically involves weekly, 50-minute sessions, although the frequency and duration of sessions may vary depending on the treatment goals. Sessions may be held in-person or over HIPAA-compliant video conference.

Dr. Van Meter is an out-of-network provider. However, many insurance providers will reimburse some portion of the fee and Dr. Van Meter is happy to provide an invoice that can be submitted for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider to learn more about your benefits.

About

Anna Van Meter, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist. She specializes in the evidence-based assessment and treatment of people with mood or anxiety disorders. She has expertise working with clients with depression, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, bipolar disorder, relationship problems, and other emotional disturbances.

 

Dr. Van Meter is an Assistant Professor at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine and holds appointments at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell. She leads an active research lab that investigates novel approaches to improve the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders. Dr. Van Meter's research is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the American Psychological Foundation, and the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. She is the recipient of multiple early career awards.

Dr. Van Meter graduated from Dartmouth College. She earned her PhD in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her clinical internship at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
